Professor Sir James Black OM FRS Hon FRSE
Sir James discovered pronethalol, the first clinically-evaluated beta-blocker leading to
propranolol (Inderal) at ICI. Ten years later, at SmithKline and French, he discovered the histamine H2-receptor
antagonist cimetidine (Tagamet) and in 1988 he founded the James Black Foundation. Sir James received the Nobel Prize for
Medicine in 1988. He is Chancellor of the University of Dundee.
Professor Christopher A Hunter
Chris Hunter is Head of the Department of Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the University of Sheffield. In 1992, he received the Meldola Medal awarded by the Royal Society of Chemistry. In 1995 he was further recognised with the Zeneca Research Award in Organic Chemistry and received the RSCs Corday-Morgan Medal for 2000.
Professor Jeremy K M Sanders ScD FRS
Jeremy Sanders is Head of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. He has received many prizes and honours including election to the Royal Society in 1995 and the award of the Pedler Medal from the RSC in 1996.
Dr Brian Warrington
Brian Warrington joined Smith, Kline and French in 1965 and was appointed Vice President, Technology Development
with GlaxoSmithKline in 2000. He has worked as a medicinal chemist on a number of successful drug discovery projects and has specialised in
high throughput chemistry. He is Chairman of the INSIGHT High Throughput Technologies Faraday Partnership, Visiting Professor at Hull and
Visiting Scientist in Residence at Cambridge. He currently works as an independent consultant.
